Pride Day in NYC

Sunday was The 35th Annual Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride March in the Big Apple. Revelers overtook the normally staid 5th Avenue and marched exuberantly south for a downtown celebration culminating a weeklong series of events. Ariel and I are always up for something new and decided to take in some of the sights and sounds. We camped out at 48th and 5th and witnessed displays of skin, song, costume, and merriment.

There was not much middle ground in the costume department. The costumes were either incredibly small and revealing, or incredibly intricate and . . . well, see for yourself and choose your own adjectives -

Dude looks like a lady

The sun decided to flame on this day of flaming exploits and I’m quite sure Monday morning many revelers will wake up to a great deal of discomfort in sensitive areas that normally don’t see the light of day.

Just when we thought we had seen it all, Ariel and I stumbled upon a superhero on the way home. We had not polluted our veins in quite some time so we dropped by the Times Square McDonald’s for some French fries. As we were eating, Ariel noticed a rather famous patron climbing the stairs to the second level. None other than Spiderman decided to pay the fast food joint a visit. We had hoped the mystery of who Spidey really is would be answered, but we were met with disappointment.

The web slinger had ordered a salad and we watched expectantly for him to remove his mask. Instead, he stealthily rolled up the lower portion of his mast to reveal only his mouth. He then started downing his salad and our hearts sank as we realized the mystery would remain veiled in a web of wonder. Spidey was getting quite a bit of attention and we decided not to intrude on his lunch so I just took this picture from a distance.

Spidey Rolling It Up

Just goes to prove there is never a boring day in New York City folks.
