Korea Town Gem

A visit to Korea Town in Manhattan is a weekly grocery shopping ritual for us. It’s a ritual so ingrained that we pretty much make a B-line for the Han Ah Reum Grocery store and ignore everything else around. On a recent trip we were hungry and it’s never a good idea to go grocery shopping hungry so we decided to take a look around. We discovered a new gem – Woorijip (rough translation, Our House). We are not too sure how new they are, we did not ask. Maybe they have been around a while and we just did not notice.

Woorijip sells prepared food that has been packaged and is ready to eat and also features a wonderful buffet and noodle bar. The prices are very reasonable and the selection is excellent. They have a few tables and chairs set up so you can eat in and not have to worry about dealing with wait staff or paying a tip. You can also just grab your grub and go.

It’s located at 12 W. 32nd Street in the middle of Korea Town on the south side of the street (between 5th and 6th). If you have not ventured into the world of Korean food you are missing out and this is an inexpensive and easy way to introduce yourself to possibly the most nationalistic cuisine in the world. If you get hooked on Kimchee, you will never go back – you have been warned.
