Kid Questions

Over the short life of my blog, I have brought up the topic of raising kids in NYC several times. I can’t imagine the questions that are posed to parents toting around their children in Gotham. I often have to scratch my head and wonder at what I see so I can’t imagine trying to answer questions posed by innocent young minds. Well, I stumbled across a blog (www.culturekitchen.com) that had a post on this topic. The author, a parent, took their child to the Pride Parade this past Sunday and the blog comments made me smile. Read for yourself if you feel the need to wander.

having grown up in ny, i think its the best thing you can do for a kid! i got a sense of independence from a young age, since i could get around by myself, and i was exposed to culture everywhere.

and i laughed at the kids whose parents sent them to boarding school since they were worried about their kids doing drugs in the city – the drug problem in boarding schools is way worse than most high schools in the city because they have the space and aren’t always monitored by the teachers.

Word! I think growing up in New York City would have been fun. So much goes on and there are so many different cultures in a small space. I just can’t imagine being a parent in the big city . . . think of all the questions you would have to attempt to answer. Makes my head hurt just thinking about it.

I grew up in rural Iowa and have never enjoyed staying too long in the city. I love to visit the city and stay a while, but after a while I long for open spaces and wildlife… I it hard for me to imagine actually growing up in a place like NY NY!! It just seems like it would have been a hectic childhood.
