My friend Blue and some of the other hooligans who have been arrested for riding their bikes in the street have banned together to raise money for their legal defense fund. On April 9 there is going to be a bash to help fund the legal costs related to court proceedings for some of the people who have been arrested in Critical Mass rides. This is what I call democracy in action. And all you have to do is drink beer to lend your support. What better deal is there than that? I can see the campaign slogans now:
“Down a Beer, Support a Cyclist!”
“One, two, three, four we don’t need a bike war!”
“Leave no Cyclist Behind.”
I have to actually credit the police; they have galvanized cyclists more than leaving riders alone could have ever done – some kind of Bizarro Universe rule or something. Not only that, the police presence at rides since last August has helped provide a great deal of publicity for the cause.

Also, a trailer is available on-line for a movie called Still We Ride that is based upon the police crack down on cyclists during last year’s Republican National Convention in NYC. The film is set to debut at the upcoming fifth annual
Bicycle Film Festival.
