The Real Matrix

I am convinced New York City is pretty much a living Matrix movie. More and more real life seems to imitate science fiction. The machines are taking over and have more rights than humans. The machine in question? The automobile.

Automobile overcrowding in New York City is a huge problem. Logic would deem that in a city where pedestrian traffic outnumbers auto traffic, pedestrians would get the nod. But NYC government officials seek to overcome logic with this great solution: allow the parking of vehicles on sidewalks during the busy holiday season. This picture comes from Transportation Alternatives:

Yes, we have too many cars and no place to put them so what should be do? Let’s force people to walk in the street by allowing cars to park on pedestrian highways (sidewalks) during one of the busiest tourist season of the year. Ho! Ho! Ho!

Hey Mayor B, how about addressing the problem in suitable manner by inviting urban planners from around the world for a forum on the issue. Come on, I dare you. Are you afraid they might offer reasonable solutions?

I visit NYC fairly regularly, and it really seems absurd that people really need a massive SUV or unnessessarily large vehicle to get around.

If anything, pedestrians walking in the street will gum up traffic even more than if the cars were allowed to park in the street.

I will not get on the subway for nothing, i like the idea to drive where i want to go and spend some quiet time by myself.
